OpenClaw slowing down your computer? Keep it usable

“When my agents get busy, my Mac freezes.”

Three agents open browsers and run jobs at once on the Mac you work on. The fan spins up, video calls stutter, and typing lags.

You don’t want to stop the agents. You want them to give the computer back when you need it.

Why it happens in OpenClaw

  • OpenClaw runs agents, their browsers and their tools on the machine it’s installed on, side by side with everything else you use.
  • OpenClaw’s own limits are settings you choose ahead of time, not a reaction to how busy the computer is right now.

How Octopus Prime solves it

The Octopus Prime iPhone app: Home, with the Customer Outreach Planning project’s Project Log and channels, and the AI agents

Agents ease off when the computer is overloaded.

Computer load protection is on by default: when a computer is overloaded, its agents ease off so it stays usable. Turn it off for a computer that does nothing but run agents.

  • On for every connected computer from the start; turn it off per computer.
  • Force stop asks an agent, a group or every computer to save its work, then stops it.
  • Move heavy agents to another computer: every computer’s agents sit in the same workspace and channels.
  • The Octopus Mac app has status and notifications built in.

Where to find it in the app

  1. In the app, Settings › AI agents › Connect OpenClaw gives you a one-time setup code and shows the exact install step for your computer.
  2. Load protection is already on for that computer. Turn it off only for a computer that runs agents and nothing else.
  3. If one agent is the problem, use Force stop on just that agent. It saves its work first.
  4. To spread the load, connect a second computer and move the heavy agents there.

Questions

Why does OpenClaw make my computer slow?

Agents, their browsers and their tools all run on that computer. Several busy agents at once can use most of what it has.

Can I keep agents running without freezing my Mac?

Yes. With Octopus Prime, computer load protection has agents ease off when the computer is overloaded. It’s on by default.
