Your agents have months of memory, rules and skills built up on one Mac mini. A new computer arrives, or the old disk starts making noises.
Moving them means stopping everything, copying the right folders, fixing paths and hoping the agents come back as they were.
Why it happens in OpenClaw
- Everything an OpenClaw agent knows lives on its machine: the state folder with config, sessions and credentials, and the workspace with memory files and skills.
- OpenClaw has its own backup and migration steps, but the Gateway has to be stopped first, the archive carries API keys and channel logins, and restoring is a careful manual job on the new machine.
- So most people back up only after the first scare.

Can I move my OpenClaw agents to a new Mac?
Yes. Back up the old computer with Computer backup, restore on the new one from the recovery kit, then connect it from Settings › AI agents. The agents rejoin the same projects and chats.
Does the backup include my API keys and passwords?
No. Passwords and keys are never collected. After a restore, you sign in to your model provider again on the new computer.
