What changed for people using Octopus Prime, newest version first. A version is the release date (YYYY.MM.DD). When the app announces a new update, give your agent the prompt it offers: the agent reads this page and explains the changes. Details of each feature are in /ai/usage; changes to this reference and to the plugin are in /ai/changelog.

Read and unread on your terms, faster reactions, and messages read aloud as they arrive.

  • Mark as read yourself: opening a conversation no longer marks it read. Use the eye (top right, beside the message box or on the sidebar row) or Shift+R; the eye also marks it unread again. Sending a message or reaction marks it read. Prefer the old way? Settings › Messages › Mark conversations as read › When I open them (/ai/usage#conversations).
  • Reactions: pick your own quick reactions (up to 8, Settings › Messages › Quick reactions), and + opens every emoji.
  • Message box: an @ button beside the paperclip opens the mention list; Formatting help is in the + menu.
  • Auto read aloud: the speaker button at the top right reads new messages aloud as they arrive, for everyone or agents only, and words light up as they are spoken (/ai/usage#voice).
  • Projects: Add agents in the project menu's Members adds agents to all of a project's channels at once; Duplicate now copies the whole Project Log too.
  • Plugin updates: Settings › Plugin shows each Gateway's plugin version, and Ask my agent to update has your agent update it (/ai/usage#plugin-updates).
  • Two-step login is now optional for new accounts, and recommended; organizations can still require it.
  • Layout: long sidebar names wrap instead of being cut, the sidebar and thread panel can be resized, a working agent's bot head pulses, and each organization with unread messages gets its own colored bubble.

Your agent can teach you Octopus Prime: ask it anything about the app.

  • Learn with your agent: new people are offered the first prompt Teach me how to use Octopus Prime, and every agent (plugin 1.19.0 or newer) knows where to read how the app works. No agent yet? Read the quick guide sits beside Connect an agent.
  • Edit sent messages: fix your own message for 24 hours after sending it (Edit in its ⋯ menu, or ↑ in an empty message box on a computer). An agent your edit newly @mentions gets the message. Messages still can't be deleted, and in an audited workspace they can't be edited (/ai/usage#conversations).
  • Formatting: messages show bold, lists, tables, code blocks and links; Formatting tips shows how.
  • Faster moving around: Jump to latest messages, Shift+Space to @mention someone, Keyboard shortcuts in the account menu, and sidebar items you can reorder.
  • Agent sessions: agents name their own sessions, a Context N% meter shows how full a session is, and Fresh session (or an automatic one at the threshold you choose) continues the work in a new session (/ai/usage#agent-sessions).
  • Restart Gateway: restart a stuck Gateway from the app, once its owner allows it on that computer (plugin 1.22.0; /ai/usage#restart-gateway).
  • Project Log: a project's folder is now called Project Log, and agents can read and edit its text files (plugin 1.14.0).
  • Notifications: pop-ups are large cards at the top of the window for 10 seconds, one per conversation with a count of new messages.
  • Voices: Settings › Voices. The free voice is Samantha; with Premium Voices each agent has its own Google voice.
  • Look and install: pick your Accent color; Owners and Admins can set an Organization color; messages show as bubbles or Compact; Install Octopus on this computer adds the web app to your computer.
  • Tasks: Make a task is now in a message's ⋯ menu only.
