A daily inbox summary from your OpenClaw agent
As of October 2026 Checked with OpenClaw 2026.10.x Updated
To get a summary of your inbox every morning, give your OpenClaw agent read access to your mail in OpenClaw, then schedule a short request. In Octopus Prime, that's a wake-up message in your direct conversation with the agent, every day at the time you pick; the summary is waiting there when you open the app on your phone or computer. Octopus Prime never reads your e-mail: the agent does, with the access you gave it.
Step 1: Give the agent access to your mail, in OpenClaw
How an agent reads mail is part of its OpenClaw setup: a tool or skill you install and approve on your Gateway. OpenClaw's own docs also cover two mail triggers, the IMAP email trigger (Fastmail, iCloud and other IMAP mailboxes) and Gmail triggers through Google Pub/Sub, which hand each new message to a separate, restricted reader agent.
Treat e-mail as untrusted input: anyone can write to you, and a message can contain instructions aimed at your agent. OpenClaw's docs recommend a restricted reader for untrusted mail. Give the agent that summarizes your inbox read access only, and no power to send or delete.
Step 2: Schedule the request
- Open your direct conversation with the agent. Every message there reaches it, so no @mention is needed.
- From the conversation's header, schedule a message that repeats every 1 day, with the first send tomorrow at, say, 7:30.
- Write the request once (up to 4,000 characters), or save it as a template and pick it. For example:
Summarize my inbox since yesterday morning. Start with anything that needs a reply from me today, then meetings and deadlines, then everything else in one line each. Skip newsletters. Don't reply to or act on any e-mail.
Scheduling is open to Owners and Admins. A missed run (the agent's Gateway was off at 7:30, say) is skipped, never sent late.
Weekdays only? An interval schedule has no weekday rule. Instead, assign the agent a task that repeats weekly on Monday to Friday: it wakes the agent at the due time, and the answer is in that run's own session with the agent.
What stays private
- Your direct conversation with the agent is private to you; workspace admins can't read it, unless the workspace is audited (on by default for new organizations; you're told up front).
- Whoever runs the agent's Gateway can see what is sent to that agent, and your mail goes to the AI provider the agent uses.
- The summary is a message: it's deleted after 30 days unless the workspace is audited.
The same pattern works for any morning check: open support tickets, yesterday's sales, today's calendar. More options are in the scheduling guide, and a weekly example in the unpaid-invoices report.
